Big Smith Movie April 30th, Live Show May 2nd

Big Smith To Bring Old Time Country/Neo-Hillbilly Music to Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, April 6, 2009-- Big Smith will make their Indianapolis debut at Earth House, 237 N. East St, on May 2. They will play at 9:00 PM with an opening band at 8:00 PM. Cover is $10 and the venue is open to all ages.

The Springfield, MO based band has built a devoted following playing a unique style of music that has been described as a raw, indigenous mountain sound, reinterperated by neo-hillbillies. Big Smith has opened up for headliners like Emmylou Harris and Del McCoury.

Performing together since 1996, the band now does over 100 shows a year. Composed of five cousins, led by frontman Mark Bilyeu, and joined by fiddler Molly Healey, Big Smith is still adored in their native Ozarks. Years of travel though have also earned them a place as a Midwest institution. As Big Smith begins work on album #6 to be released in the summer of 2009, they continue to enjoy the success of the five releases that document their many years together.

Their most recent studio CD is a double disc made with their young fans in mind, "Hay to Zzzzzz: Hillbilly Songs for Kids". It is a generous portion of music - 42 tracks spread across two CDs. Prior to "Hay to Zzzzzz," Big Smith released "Gig," another double CD. Long requested by fans, it is a generous sampling of what one can expect from the band's legendary club appearances. The catalog is rounded out by and a live gospel CD, "Live at Lonestar," that pays tribute to their family's musical roots.

The documentary "Homemade Hillbilly Jam," profiling the band and the music of their extended family, has garnered rave reviews and a legion of new fans through numerous screenings at film festivals around the world. The film will screen at Earth House on April 30th at 7:00 PM.

"It is important that Big Smith is bringing their unique Midwest sound to Indianapolis," said concert organizer Mike Oles. "The music should appeal to a wide group of people; blue grass and country fans, Indie rockers, and all those who are fascinated with America's deeply rooted music."

Anna Greeley, CMT, is now providing massage therapy at Earth House

Anna Greeley is now providing massage therapy and energy healing at Earth House! Anna is dedicated to making her services available to those who need it, no matter their circumstances, through healing by donation. This means the client can decide how much money to pay for the massage. Anna often interprets "by donation" as: "what you have, what you can afford, or what you think the healing is worth." Earth to Mike Graves
Recent collaborative works by Mike Graves & the BRIDGE Collective. An Artist Reception will be held March 20th from 5-11PM.

Contemporary American artist Mike Graves, born in Indiana. Extensive travel with his military family provided much influence and cultural diversity for many years before he made his way back to Indianapolis in 1992 to attend Herron School of Art where he studied sculpting and painting for two and a half years. Through his passion for art and his life experiences, he has developed an artistic identity that includes: painter, sculptor, musician.

Mike feels that he was born to be an artist; it comes natural to him, it makes him happy. He is a founding member of the BRIDGE Collective, a collaborative organization of artists, featuring an extensive selection of works. He has enjoyed success showing in galleries and participating in art and music events on local and national levels. Goals for the future are to continue to have fun, make a living thru art and music, and to take his art to an international audience. In his own words: "I think of my work as a free flowing experiment in motion. Utilizing collage elements, painting and mixed media, my mission is to produce work which will relate to and inspire the modern mind."

The Earth to Mike Graves Exhibit runs through April 13th.
